The Most Common Reasons Cars Break Down
An automobile is a complicated machine, and in order for it to work properly, all of its individual parts must be functioning properly. Sometimes, however, your car may suddenly malfunction and cause your journey to cease. Here are a few of the most common reasons cars break down and where to go for auto repair to get back on the road.
Overheating
Your summer road trip may come to a halt if your vehicle cannot handle the heat. Overheating is a common reason that cars break down and it may be due to several different reasons, the most common of which is low engine coolant or engine oil. Alternatively, your cooling system may need to be repaired or replaced. The warmer the weather, the harder your cooling system must work in order to keep your engine functioning. If your car starts to overheat, roll down the windows and turn on the heater so that heat is taken away from the engine.
Faulty Battery
You will not be going anywhere with a malfunctioning battery. Your battery must stay cool in order to keep working, so check to make sure it has its plastic casing; these pieces of plastic help to cool the battery, which keeps it working longer. Symptoms of a faulty battery include a car that will not start and alternator failure. It is a good idea to have your battery replaced every three years in order to prevent this from occurring.
Flat Tire
It is important to be cognizant of the amount of pressure in your tires. Keep in mind that heat causes air pressure to expand, which may lead to over-inflation and possibly a blowout. Overused tires are also more vulnerable to becoming flat. Check the pressure of your tires with a tire gauge at least once a week and be sure to change them as appropriate.
