Why You Should Warm Your Vehicle in the Winter
There are many benefits to warming your vehicle before you begin your drive. When it’s cold outside, warming up your vehicle will get the heater working faster and will even improve your car’s performance and fuel economy.
Before you start your engine, it is the same temperature as the ambient temperature outside. This is always lower than the temperature at which your engine will optimally perform. If you do not warm your engine, you may be causing excess wear and using additional fuel. Let your engine idle for at least 30 seconds before putting it into gear, but you may need to warm up your vehicle for 5-10 minutes during the winter.
